Alumni-Elected Trustees Each year, Wesleyan alumni elect three of their peers to serve on the University’s Board of Trustees for a three-year term. While many schools have some Alumni-Elected Trustee representation, Wesleyan is unique in that nearly one quarter of the Board is elected by the alumni body.
This past spring, Wesleyan welcomed three new Alumni-Elected Trustees Livia Wong McCarthy ’81, Jayvan (“Jay”) Mitchell ’11, and Aaron Veerasuntharam ’14
Feel free to nominate fellow alumni for the next cycle. Invitations to vote will be sent out in the Spring. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

The Binswanger Prize for Excellence in Teaching Committee The Binswanger Prize for Excellence in Teaching was inaugurated in 1993 as an institutional recognition of outstanding faculty members. One to three Binswanger Prizes are presented each year, selected by the Binswanger Committee, and are made possible by the generosity of the Binswanger family that counts numerous Wesleyan alumni, alumnae and parents in its ranks. The standards and criteria for the annual prizes shall be excellence in teaching, as exemplified by commitment to the classroom and student accomplishment, intellectual demands placed on students, lucidity and passion. Recommendations may be based on any of the types of teaching that are done at the University including, but not limited to, teaching in lecture courses, seminars, laboratories, creative and performance-based courses, research tutorials and other individual and group tutorials at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Membership All graduates of Wesleyan University, all non-graduates who have attended the University for at least one semester and whose classes have graduated, all persons who have received honorary degrees from the University, all persons who are or have been trustees of the University, and all persons who may, from time to time, be entitled to vote for alumni-elected trustees shall be members of the Alumni Association. There are well over 30,000 alumni in all 50 states and many nations around the world.
-
Governance The Association is governed by an Executive Committee including the officers; one or more representatives from each active Council and Committee of the Association, including no fewer than three representatives of regional Wesleyan clubs; and up to seven at-large representatives from among members of the Association.
The Executive Committee sets priorities for the Alumni Association and works with University Relations staff to facilitate and promote regional events and activities (e.g. president's receptions, faculty talks, cultural events, athletic events, community service events and Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) events), alumni of color activities, seminars, fundraising, career advising and networking, and recruitment of prospective students.
Subcommittees of the Executive Committee include the Wesleyan Fund National Committee, which provides direction and support for The Wesleyan Fund; the Binswanger Prize for Excellence in Teaching Committee, which reviews recommendations from students and alumni as well as teaching evaluations to select three faculty members each year; and the Nominating Committee, which oversees selection of trustees candidates for annual election.
The Executive Committee meets twice a year. An annual meeting for all alumni is held during Reunion & Commencement Weekend.
