Wesleyan Sustainability Office
The Sustainability Office promotes an environmentally just approach to Wesleyan’s relationship with students, faculty, staff, the surrounding community, and the world. We strive to develop an intersectional understanding of the effects of Wesleyan on people and the planet. We work to create thriving, equitable, and just communities that model individual and institutional environmental and social responsibility to affect meaningful sustainable change.
In practical terms, this means:
- Ensuring our approach to sustainability reflects societal issues including racism, classism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination
- Preparing students to become advocates for environmental justice and sustainability through a variety of educational programs and events on campus
- Integrating sustainability and environmental justice into Wesleyan’s curriculum
- Maintaining communication channels between students, faculty, and staff
- Advocating for University practices that are sustainable, including eliminating Wesleyan’s carbon footprint by 2035
- Collaborating with other stakeholders to advance mutual sustainability and environmental justice
