Major Requirements

The Chemistry Department offers two pathways for completing the major. The Standard Chemistry Track (A-track) is appropriate for students who are interested in studying chemistry with the breadth and depth of a traditional chemistry major. The Biological Chemistry Track (B-track) is intended for students who prefer to focus their studies on biochemistry and chemical biology at the molecular level. Both tracks of the major begin with a two-year introductory sequence of general and organic chemistry courses, along with three semesters of laboratory instruction. Students interested in the chemistry major should also try to complete the mathematics, physics (A-track), and biology (B-track) requirements before declaring the major, if possible.

The table below provides a summary of the major requirements listed in the Academic CatalogAll required courses 0.5-credit and greater must be taken under a letter-grading mode (A–F).
