Career Wellness

What is Career Wellness?

Career wellness is a concept that focuses on the intersection of career development, mental health, and wellness.  Although we think of career as picking a major or employment we have held or hope to hold in the future, the concept of career is more complex and holistic.  Career choices can be influenced by our mental health, interests, values, personality, exposure to experiences, identity, family and cultural expectations, access to opportunities, and navigating societal structures.  Career Wellness focuses on how we understand and talk about ourselves, recognizing and attending to our needs, and making empowered authentic choices based on who we are and what is important to us.

Grant Funding

The Wesleyan Summer Grants Program provides funding to alleviate costs associated with pursuing career-related summer experiences. Applications open annually at the start of the Spring semester and funds are awarded up to $5,000. Funding can be used to cover expenses directly related to the experience, including housing, food, travel, clothing/equipment, and program costs. Summer experiences eligible for funding include internships, volunteer work, academic programs, research (with an organization), independent projects/research, thesis research (Juniors only), and entrepreneurial ventures. See more information about application deadlines and how to apply on the Wesleyan Summer Grant webpage.

The Gordon Career Center’s Career Development Grant (CDG) provides financial support to offset costs associated with career exploration and preparation. Priority is given to those applicants with the highest level of financial need and grants are awarded throughout the academic year until funds for the semester are exhausted. Eligible expenses include: professional attire, transportation for career-related travel (such as recruiting events and interviews), graduate entrance exam fees (e.g. LSAT, MCAT), and more.
