Pride Month

Every year, the Wesleyan community comes together to celebrate Pride Month in October with a variety of events, initatives, performances, and celebrations.  Please come out and support as many of the great events listed below as you are able!

Queer Sex Ed

  4. Event Description:  Queer Sex Ed - What types of barrier methods should two people with vulvas use? What do you do with a foreskin? Does liking _________ mean that I’m _________? Mainstream sex ed probably hasn’t answered the questions you have about having sex as a queer (or questioning) person, but that’s all going to change in this workshop. Led by @FeministSexEd, this workshop is open to people of all genders and sexual orientations. Dinner, catered by Chipotle, will be provided starting at 6:30 and there will be multiple chances to win prizes!

 

Being Queer in Workplace (Alumni Panel)

  4. Event Description:  Pride and Profession: Alumni Insights on Being Queer in the Workplace. Join us for an engaging alumni panel exploring the intersection of queer identity and the professional world. Hear firsthand experiences from former students who have navigated their careers while embracing their authentic selves. This event offers valuable insights, advice, and inspiration for current students as they prepare to enter the workforce. Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and foster a more inclusive professional environment!

 

Pride Month Kickoff

  4. Event Description:  All LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, students and their allies are invited to help us kick off the 2024  Pride Month with a communal dinner and conversation about being queer at Wesleyan and community building!

 

Film: James Baldwin: The Price of the Tickets & Panel

  3. Event Organizers: Middletown Pride and African American Studies, with support from the Resource Center and the American Studies, English, and Film Studies Departments
  4. Event Description:  Film screening and panel discussion of James Baldwin: The Price of the Ticket. Panelists include Karen Thorsen, director of this classic, award-winning documentary film, and Dr. Frank Leon Roberts, in conversation with Dr. Jesse Nasta

 

Film: Joyland

  4. Event Description:  A screening of the film Joyland (2022). A Pakistani film that explores themes of queerness and family.

 

Bling Up Your Things

Event Description: This event is called "Bling up your Things" where we invite the Wesleyan community to bedazzle some of their stuff that they have at home or stuff that needs a little touch up. This will be happening while we have a conversation about gender expression, sexuality, queer fashion, and how you express yourself at Wes.

 

Finding Gender + Queer Affirming Healthcare

Event Description: Finding Gender & Queer Affirming Healthcare - LGBTQIA+ folks frequently face discrimination in healthcare spaces, but many resources and tips are available for finding a healthcare professional who is a true ally. Join WesWell and Planned Parenthood for a workshop to learn self-advocacy skills for healthcare settings and how to find providers who are gender and queer-affirming.  Dinner from Pokeworks will be provided to attendees

 

LGBTQ+ & Christian Lunch

  3. Event Organizers: Rev. Tracy (University Chaplain) of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life
  4. Event Description: Lunch at a local restaurant for students who identify as both LGBTQ+ and Christian.

 

Discovering Queerness Through Art 

  1. Event Time and Date: Friday, October 18th from 2:30pm-4pm
  2. Event Location/Zoom Information: AWKS105
  3. Event Organizers: Drawing Club, art department, Lauren Schweitzer
  4. Event Description: Discovering queerness through art: since the beginning of time art has been one way that queerness is communicated and explored. In this workshop we will be discussing art through the lens of queerness and digging into how one’s own identity can be conveyed through art.

 

Sexplore: Sex Toy Raffle & HIV Testing

  1. Event Time and Date: Wednesday, October 23rd from 10:00am-4:00pm

  4. Event Description: Sexplore - Join WesWell to ask all your questions about sex and sexual health, get unbiased, non-judgemental support and pick up safer sex supplies & other wellness giveaways. The Center for Key Populations will be here to provide HIV testing to those interested and there is a sex toy raffle for all visitors of the event!

 

LGBTQ+ Advocacy

  3. Event Organizers: Olin Library
  4. Event Description:  This is a space for people to take some action related to LGBTQ advocacy—emailing politicians, writing op-eds, editing Wikipedia pages, etc.

 

WesVogue

  1. Event Time and Date: Thursday, October 24th from 8:00 pm-10:00 pm
  2. Event Location/Zoom Information: Schoenberg Dance Studio
  3. Event Organizers: Spectrum and The Resource Center
  4. Event Description:  Learn the basics of ballroom culture, voguing, and runway performance from some of the best on the scene!  

 

Investigating the Vibrations of Vibrators

  1. Event Time and Date: Friday, October 25th, 12:00pm

  3. Event Organizers: ASHA and disengineering
  4. Event Description: Talk about the “vibrations of vibrators” and use contact microphones or guitar pickups to hear what kind of sounds the motors and magnets and stuff make inside

 

Gala

  4. Event Description:  Come through to the annual Pride Month Formal, Gay-la, for a night of fun, dancing, photo booth, and great company.
