Time's Up Act
In the 2019 legislative session the Connecticut General Assembly passed and the Governor signed Public Acts 19-16 and 19-93, which together constitute the Time's Up Act. The Act involves several significant changes to Connecticut’s employment laws, with a particular focus on expanding sexual harassment prevention laws. This is not connected to federal Title IX laws. Connecticut's legislation, which took effect this past fall, establishes new rules and requirements regarding training expectations. In short, employers (Wesleyan) must provide all existing employees (full and part-time faculty, staff and graduate students) with two hours of prevention training. To meet this requirement, Wesleyan University is using this online module and will record each employee's compliance.
Public Acts 19-16 and 19-93 Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this a Title IX requirement?
No, this is not related to Title IX federal legislation. - If I attended a sexual harassment training in the past, do I need to do this?
Yes, you must complete this on-line training. This law states that all employees, regardless of previous training, must be re-trained. Additionally, this requirement does not replace the current Title VII-Title IX training which is a one-time, in-person, foundation workshop. Title VII-Title IX is a Wesleyan-specific requirement for all full-time faculty, staff and graduate students and has been offered since 2014, most recently in faculty, staff and graduate orientation as well as through Success@WES. If you have not participated previously you can sign up when the schedule resumes fall '20 semester.
- What if I did the same CHRO on-line training for another job?
Many employers in Connecticut are using this training so, if you have completed this same on-line training for another workplace/organization, you can simply send the certificate to Debbie so we can update the database and mark you completed.
- When I get the certificate, do I send it to someone?
No, you need not send the certificate of completion; but you should keep that for your records should you need it in the future. We have a record of who completes this training.
- Can I start the training and finish at another time?
Yes, we were told there should be no problem taking the training one part at a time; the only thing you are unable to do is to get back into the middle of a segment and pick up where you were.
- Where should the poster from CHRO be posted?
Someplace visible to those in your area, faculty or staff kitchen, copy room, etc. Any space where people pass through on occasion, is perfect.
