GWC 23-24 Annual Report
2023-24 was the first year for the Global Wesleyan Collaborative (GWC). For a basic overview of the GWC, see our homepage here. One of our major projects this year has been the development of an Internationalization Dashboard that collects “activities” undertaken by staff, faculty, and students to further internationalize our university. For general information about the Dashboard, see here. One virtue of the Dashboard is that it now allows us to easily list activities that were either completed this year or are on-going (also indicating which internationalization goal each activity advances). The full list is below, but before we get to that, we start with a few highlights.
Highlights of 2023-24
- The Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum program expanded both languages (Portuguese) and disciplines (Anthropology)
- We hosted our first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Pawan Sharma (from India) in Chemistry
- The Wesleyan Africans Thriving Together (WATT) peer mentorship program and the Wesleyan International Speakers Program (WISP) were established
- 5 students went to the Iracambi Research Center in the Brazilian rainforest during summer 2023 (story here); several more are going this coming summer
- Beginning this year, area studies minors now have dedicated budgets set in advance.
- We created a website noting ways in which academic units decenter Europe in their pedagogies (see here)
