WSR Roles
Wesleyan takes a team approach to supporting scholars and their dependents. Below is a snapshot summary of the team structure, its members, and the roles they each play:
- The Fries Center for Global Studies serves as the central communication point
- Anita Deeg-Carlin, Associate Director for Intercultural Learning, can be reached at adeegcarlin@wesleyan.edu
- Academic Affairs supports all hiring and administrative needs
- Sterling Berry-Whitlock, Faculty Employment Specialist, can be reached at sberrywhitlo@wesleyan.edu
- The Academic Department that agrees to host a scholar arranges their teaching load and work space, and provides an academic community for the visitor
- For the current academic year (2023-24), those two departments are:
- Earth and Environmental Sciences (Suzanne O'Connell, Chair)
- Center for Humanities (Natasha Korda, Chair)

- The Wesleyan Welcome and Hospitality Committee supports the scholars and their family as they adjust to life in the US. Our group of volunteers facilitates non-academic aspects of welcoming scholars at risk and their families to the Wesleyan and Middletown communities. This includes finding housing, collecting donations of clothing and household items, helping enroll children in school, providing English language tutoring, developing tools for self-sufficiency, and building cultural connections. Our sub-committees include the following, and all could use your help!
