Wesleyan Math and Science Scholars (WesMaSS) is a program designed to center and guide those students who have the opportunity to be trailblazers as they pursue studies in science and math. WesMaSS students are pathfinders and innovators -- opening doors that others in their schools, communities, or families might not have had the chance to open. The program invites these leaders to participate before they matriculate at the university.
WesMaSS equips participants with the tools they need to get the most out of their first semesters of study, and empowers students to go on to advanced coursework in STEM majors. Scholars also have the opportunity to participate in research alongside Wesleyan faculty, preparing them for careers and graduate school in science and math fields after graduation.
WesMaSS begins the summer immediately prior to a student’s first year at Wesleyan and includes…
- Mentorship from faculty and peers in science and mathematics departments
- Academic strategy workshops
- Conversations with scientists and mathematicians highlighting their academic, career, and research pathways
- Tours of research labs for an inside look at projects advancing STEM fields right now
- Access to funding to support participation in research
- Community social events
Through these initiatives and more, WesMaSS enriches students’ pathways through the sciences and mathematics at Wesleyan University.
