  • Student Employment: Finding a Job

Students who have been allotted Federal Work-Study or WESWork employment may work part-time during the academic year to help meet their financial need. This is money that must be earned each semester; it is not guaranteed money that is set aside for students. Students will have access to job postings on the Web after arriving on campus in the fall provided complete Federal and State W-4 forms and a Federal I-9 Employment verification form are on file with the University.

Even if you do not have Federal Work-Study or WESWork eligibility, you may still work on campus, but you must locate jobs on your own. Students are welcome to view campus and local employment listings posted on the Job Board in the Office of Financial Aid.

Office hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (4 p.m. during the summer). You may also reach the office by phone at (860) 685-2800

  • Payroll Office

    212 College Street

The Payroll Office, as part of the Controller’s Office, is responsible for processing student worksheets submitted by the departments. Students deal directly with the Payroll Office staff on issues of tax withholding, W-2 statements, lost checks, and direct deposit.

All students must submit forms W-4 (Federal Income Tax Withholding Certificate) and CTW-4 (State of CT Income Tax Withholding Certificate) to the Payroll Office prior to the first day of work. Please note that earnings paid to full-time students during the academic year are not subject to Social Security/Medicare tax withholding. However, earnings paid during the summer session are subject to these taxes and will result in a separate W-2.

International students, as nonresident aliens, are required to fill out additional paperwork to determine their tax status, if they are eligible for a tax treaty exemption, and to understand their filing requirements under U.S. tax law.

Direct deposit of students' paychecks is available and encouraged.

Those students who have completed their degree requirements prior to graduation and who are no longer full-time students will be considered "periphery employees" for payroll purposes and will follow the temporary employee payment schedule and guidelines.

Office hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and as necessary by appointment.
