Community Agreement
Wesleyan University is committed to the health and safety of its students, staff, and faculty and continues to be informed by relevant governmental and agency guidance to determine ways to safely repopulate our residential campus in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. We must all do our part to protect ourselves and each other. The University will continue to make health-informed decisions to protect our community.
In order to help mitigate health risks and comply with current guidelines, all members of the Wesleyan community will be expected to abide by these and other policies and directives issued as we navigate this difficult time. These public health precautions should be followed at all times and are subject to change as the local and global situation evolves. Updates will be shared with all members of our community as soon as they are available.
- All members of the Wesleyan community must act in a manner that demonstrates respect and consideration for the health and safety of others and are prohibited from creating a health or safety hazard. The University reserves the right to require a person to relocate or leave campus on an expedited basis if it determines that the person presents a health or safety risk to others.
- Employees who have COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath, chills, sore throat, muscle aches, and loss of taste and/or smell) or has had a known COVID-19 exposure should stay at home and report their symptoms to University Health Services and to their immediate supervisor.
- Employees with underlying health conditions should consult their personal health care provider to determine their level of risk. Individuals in a high risk category or who have other considerations should complete the Special Considerations form and discuss their need for an accommodation with Human Resources.
- Employees must adhere to social distancing standards whenever possible. This means maintaining at least six feet of distance between yourself and others.
- While on campus, employees must wear masks or face coverings that cover the mouth and nose at all times when outside of their private office or cubicle and any other time when social distancing cannot be maintained. Masks or face coverings must also be worn in classrooms. Employees who are unable to wear a face covering or mask because of a medical condition must complete the Special Considerations form.
- Employees shall exercise precautionary sanitization practices to include wiping shared surfaces, thorough and regular hand washing, and other recommended actions to promote good hygiene. The University will provide instructions on cleaning protocols intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and expects compliance with those protocols.
- Employees shall adhere to reduced capacity limits in classrooms, assembly and dining locations to permit appropriate social distancing.
- Gatherings on campus (meetings, trainings, and other events) are limited to a maximum of twenty-five individuals or as dictated by State guidelines and should take place in venues where social distancing requirements can be maintained. Face coverings or masks must be worn at all times when such gatherings are indoors or where social distancing guidelines cannot be reliably practiced.
- All University-sponsored travel is suspended through the remainder of the 2020 calendar year. Employees are discouraged from traveling to areas with high incidents of outbreak and may be required to self-isolate upon return from certain areas.
- Employees will be required to follow COVID-19 testing and contact tracing protocols established by the University.
- No campus visitors (speakers, performers, vendors, etc.) are permitted through the remainder of the 2020 calendar year, except where granted an exception by Academic Affairs, Chief Administrative Officer, or Student Affairs.
As indicated above, maintaining public health during this pandemic will require shared accountability and collective action by all members of the Wesleyan community.
