Performance Assessment
A formal performance review is conducted annually to discuss professional development needs and interests, to set goals for the coming year and to review job performance during the preceding 12 months. Newly hired employees may also receive a performance review within the first 90 days of their employment.
To assist supervisors and employees with this process, Human Resources has developed an online performance review and goal-setting form. The electronic performance review form is maintained in the employee’s portfolio and may be accessed at any time.
Topics to be discussed during the annual performance review include:
- Performance of core position responsibilities.
- Goals for current position.
- Individual strengths.
- Development and training needs.
- Setting and accomplishing departmental priorities.
- Short- and long-term career aspirations.
Any staff member whose overall performance is identified as needing improvement is required to have a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). Supervisors will identify the specific concerns and develop a plan for improvement with the staff member. Supervisors should contact Human Resources to review the Performance Improvement Plan before finalizing with the staff member.
