Artists Impacted by 2017 Hurricanes
In October 2017, Wesleyan invited artists working in all disciplines from areas affected by the hurricane season—Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands—to apply for a short-term residency on campus in Middletown, Connecticut in the spring of 2018. The artists were asked to propose a project that explores the evolving human relationship to water.
"The Center for the Arts welcomes Sarah Welch, James Beard, and Arnaldo Rodríguez Bagué to the Wesleyan campus,” said Sarah Curran, Director of the Center for the Arts. "All three artists displayed a prescience about the impact of climate change long before the hurricanes of 2017. We are happy to be able to offer this opportunity to artists whose lives were upended by the storms, and whose work will deepen the campus conversations around environmental issues."
Presented by Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts in collaboration with the College of the Environment and Special Collections & Archives in Olin Memorial Library.
