The Physics Graduate Program

Your application for admission to the Physics Graduate Program at Wesleyan University will be initiated with this online admissions application.  There is NO application fee.  In order for your application to be complete, we must also receive the following supporting information:

  • Official transcripts for undergraduate and any graduate studies (scanned copies are accepted for evaluation of applications, original copies are required for admitted students)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose (Personal statement essay which can be uploaded along with the online application).  The essay should describe in detail the following:
    • Your academic background, abilities, interests, and objectives;
    • What attracted you to your chosen course of study;
    • Any research experience you have had; and
    • Why you feel Wesleyan's program is suited to your academic and professional goals
  • GRE Scores - GRE scores are optional.
    • If GRE scores are submitted, we will review them.
    • For GRE score reporting, Wesleyan's Institutional Code is 3959. Physics Department Code is 0808.
  • GRE Physics scores - these are typically recommended, but not necessary. If submitted, we will review them.
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for international students).  We will accept self-reported scores at the application stage, however, if admitted official scores must be provided.  Send a copy in PDF format to physics@wesleyan.edu.
    • For non-native English speakers, we expect a minimum TOEFL score of: 80 (internet-based), 213
      (computer-based), or 550 (paper-based). Other evidence of English fluency can be considered.
    • For international applicants, if you have received a degree from the U.S. or other English speaking institution, this TOEFL/IELTS requirement may be waived by sending a waiver request to physics@wesleyan.edu

Applicants will receive an account and checklist where they can see whether or not their supplementary materials have been received. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their materials are properly uploaded.

Deadlines:

Spring Entry:  application must be received by September 30th

Fall Entry:  application must be received by January 31st for priority admission
