Art and Science AfterSchool Program
We serve about 80 students a year in our Art and Science AfterSchool Program. Students, grades 1-8, come to Green Street for engaging and educational classes in art, math, and science. We have a wonderful cohort of teaching artists and educators. College students also serve as teachers, assistants, and most importantly, role models.
We are proud to provide a space for youth to express themselves and a program that meets their emotional, creative, and academic needs. Every student gets to pursue their passions and build their skills, while discovering new things too!
Class Choices
We offer classes in integrative art, math, and science. Students can take classes in songwriting, African drumming, dance movement, hip hop dance, capoeira, Latin dance, clowning, breakdancing, tap dance, environmental art, fashion, art and science, experiments, observation to imagination, poetics of rap, American sign language, improvisational theater, digital photography, animation, and more!
Students design their own schedule and get to sign up for the activities that interest them. We offer academic enrichment and homework help. We also offer musical mentoring at no extra cost – a fantastic opportunity to learn a musical instrument with a weekly private lesson from a Wesleyan student musician. Instruments may be available for students to take home and practice too.
Transportation is easy too. Thanks to our partnerships with the Board of Education and Wesleyan University’s Transportation Services, we offer transportation from the following Middletown Public Schools: Bielefield, Farm Hill, Keigwin, Macdonough, Moody, Snow, Wesley, and Woodrow Wilson. Students just need to be picked up at the end of the day. Wesleyan shuttles also drop off and pick up college students who work in the program.
