Alessia Caviglia

Alessia Caviglia (she/her) is from Genova but has been living in Bologna for more than ten years, as she moved there to study foreign languages and literature when she was a freshman. After graduating, she continued with her master's degree in Italian studies. She specialized in teaching Italian as a second language, specifically researching how to design games that can be used in class.
Now as a Ph.D. Candidate in Learning Sciences and Digital Technologies she is still researching the role of analogue games in second language teaching with a particular focus on designing activities meant to overcome foreign language anxiety. She is visiting Wesleyan to teach Italian and play as much as possible, researching how educational game design should address university students.
She loves games in every form: boardgames, trpgs, escape rooms, larps, immersive experiences, videogames, geocaching: there is no type of game she hasn't tried and very few she didn't love.
As a ttrpg-enthusiast, she has translated games and game-related content into Italian and has been involved in game design jams and projects.
