Following up on last semester’s examination of Samuel Langhorne Clemens’s many-faceted life and times, we will again consider his literary works, his perspective on the world around him, his take on life in the 19th-century South, and specifically his views on slavery. A curatorial expert from the Twain House and Museum will discuss the revelations to be found in the marginal jottings in works in Twain’s library. Two further sessions will be devoted to some of Twain’s lesser-known writings.
