Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2025:
Students, faculty, and staff alike welcome the change in seasons as the cherry trees and daffodils bloom across campus. The next few weeks will be an emotion-filled time for students as they wrap up their coursework and squeeze time out of their busy schedules to say goodbye to friends and professors. Classes end on May 8 followed by five reading days. Final exams take place May 14 through May 17, and University housing closes at 1:00pm on May 18.
It's hard to believe that by this time next year the members of the Class of 2025 will have all but completed their undergraduate careers. To walk across the platform of Denison Terrance and receive their diploma, a student must meet all four Wesleyan graduation requirements: 32 credits without oversubscription, completion of a major, residency (six semesters for most students, but four or five if a junior or sophomore transfer), and a GPA of at least 74.00. While most students are aware of where they stand in relation to these requirements, if your student has any questions, please urge them to make an appointment to see me as soon as possible. Resolving any outstanding issues now can spare a lot of consternation later.
Currently students are making housing arrangements and registering for their courses for next semester. For students undertaking an honors thesis, the next couple of weeks offer an opportunity to touch base with their thesis advisor to finalize any summer research plans. This can also be a good time to make a quick visit to the Gordon Career Center to touch up their resume or to develop a strategy for applying for jobs or graduate schools upon return to campus in the fall. Again, if your student is looking for advice on how to approach these processes, please let them know that I am here to help.
I will write to you again at the beginning of the next academic year. In the meantime, have a wonderful summer!
Take care,
Kelly Dunn, Ed.D.
Dean for the Class of 2025
