January 2023
Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2026:
Campus is gearing up and looking forward to welcoming back the Class of 2026 from Winter Break. Here are some important upcoming dates to help with the return to Wesleyan. On-Campus Enrollment and Drop/Add will begin on Thursday, 01/19, and housing will open for returning students at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, 01/23. Classes will begin on Thursday, 01/26, and Spring Break will be from Saturday, 03/11 – 03/26. The last day of classes will be on Wednesday 05/10. For a more detailed list, please review the 2022-2023 Academic Calendar.
As parents and family members of this class, the spring semester brings an opportunity to reflect on so much. You may notice a change in your student from the fall to spring semester – many students feel more comfortable now that they have a semester of courses completed. Understandably the transition to college is not something that happens overnight and certainly not something that happens in one semester. Please continue to suggest they utilize on-campus resources. Students can chat with resident assistants and peer advisors for support and also identify ways to get involved. Students are encouraged to contact professors and their liberal arts advisors to discuss course work and major inquiry. Students may also schedule appointments with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), WesWell, and our staff in the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life to discuss a myriad of experiences as they continue to navigate the college transition.
The spring semester is filled with many experiences – a new set of courses, spring break, housing selection for fall, conversations about fall 2023 courses, potential majors, and study abroad. This is a time when some students start to think about their summer plans – do they plan to work or volunteer, take on an internship, and/or participate in research? Academically many students may feel more confident in their studies, managing their time more effectively and feeling more familiar with the expectations of instructors and the demands of coursework. I encourage you to chat with your student about how their approach to classes this semester may have changed and what they are most excited about learning.
I’ll write to you again before the end of the semester. In the meantime, please feel free to write with any questions you may have. If your student hasn’t had the chance to meet me yet, please encourage them to schedule an appointment to check-in.
Take care,
Michael L. Guerrero
