Information for Visitors

Building access

The Olin and Science Libraries are open to the Wesleyan community and to visitors. Please observe campus protocols while in the libraries and stay up to date on library and unique collections hours. You may consult our campus map and library floor plans for assistance in navigating our libraries.

We welcome school groups for special research assignments or tours.  Teachers should contact the library administrative office at least a week prior to determine whether the group can be accommodated.

Access to unique collections

Special Collections & ArchivesWorld Music ArchivesArchaeology & Anthropology, and CEAS are available by appointment. Please schedule your visit at least 24 hours in advance. Other requests for research and reference support are welcome via email.

Internet access and library online materials

Guest wifi and guest access to library computers are available to visitors. 

Visitors may access online library materials from our library computers. Visitors do not have access to online library materials from off-campus. To use library computers, ask for a guest login at the Circulation Desk.

Library card

To apply for a library card visit the Olin Library Circulation Office (Room 115) Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Additional hours are Sunday noon - 5 p.m. during the academic semester. Cards must be renewed each year.

Visitor and alumni library cards permit borrowing of Wesleyan's circulating materials, but do not permit borrowing from other libraries through interlibrary loan.

Eligible for Wesleyan library cards for free

  • Wesleyan alumni
  • Spouses and domestic partners of Wesleyan faculty
  • Middlesex Community College faculty
  • Holy Apostles College and Seminary faculty and students
  • Local teachers and clergy
  • CCALD (use own institution’s card)
  • BLC (obtain BLC card, see below)

Eligible for Wesleyan library cards for $35/year

  • Residents of Middletown, Cromwell, Durham, Haddam, Higganum, Middlefield and Portland, CT (high school students require a letter of introduction from their school librarian)
  • Credit card payments are accepted online or you may pay in person at the library. 

Eligible for Wesleyan library cards for $70/year

  • Residents of any Connecticut town not specified above (high school students require a letter of introduction from their school librarian)
  • Credit card payments are accepted online or you may pay in person at the library. 

Other Researchers

Members of other colleges and universities should request materials through their own institution's interlibrary loan department. Faculty and students in the Middletown area doing extended research please contact EunJoo Lee to request a library card.   

The Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Card.  BLC permits Wesleyan faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students to use BLC member libraries and borrow materials in person at those libraries.

To obtain access to the BLC libraries, you must request a BLC consortium card from EunJoo Lee, Head of Access Services at Olin Library (elee01@wesleyan.edu). Please see BLC's Consortium Card for more details about using BLC libraries.

Yale University Library card.  Wesleyan University faculty are eligible to obtain borrowing privileges from Yale University Library. Please fill out this application. You will receive email confirmation with instructions, once your request has been processed. Please allow 1-2 business days for processing.

Restrictions

Some of our services are available only to current Wesleyan students, faculty, and staff.

Alumni, visitors, and others that hold guest library cards do not have access to:

  • interlibrary loan (ILL)
  • course reserve materials
  • many of our online databases
  • off-campus access to library resources

Reference services for non-Wesleyan users are available on a limited basis.
