MONDAY NIGHT LECTURE SERIES | DEAD RECKONINGS | FALL 2024

If the Theater Is Not the Place, Where?

Anna Deavere Smith • New York University

In Conversation with Joshua Lubin-Levy

October 28th @ 6pm • Ring Family Performing Arts Center

In her newest play, This Ghost of Slavery, Anna Deavere Smith combines documentary theater with archival reports on the legacy of Apprentice Laws. In this conversation she will unpack her current research project, its connection to her long-running investigation of the school-to-prison pipeline, and consider why theater is an important arena in which to ask what to do with these artifacts of history that are crucial for understanding the present, but are so unsightly one might be reluctant to bring them forward.

Please join us on the day before for a staged reading of This Ghost of Slavery, co-produced by the Center for the Arts and Long Wharf Theater. More information available at www.wesleyan.edu/cfa.
