Yellow Vest, Red Nation, Black Strike

Yellow Vest, Red Nation, Black Strike

Joshua Clover • University of California, Davis

December 2 @ 6 P.M.
Daniel Family Commons, Usdan University Center

Poet-critic, activist and theorist Joshua Clover specializes in political theory, poetry and poetics. His most recent book, Riot. Strike. Riot: The New Era of Uprisings (Verso in 2016), theorizes riot as a historically concrete form of class struggle, using the dialectic of riot and strike to develop a revised history of capital accumulation. His current work focuses on poetry and the transformation of the world-system, and on the dynamic between overdeveloped nations and neocolonialism. He has published three books of poetry, most recently Red Epic.

This lecture examines three modes of struggle from the repertoire of collective action that offer distinct modes and scales of organization, each of them existing beyond the conventions of organized labor and political party.

All lectures begin at 6 p.m. and are held in the Daniel Family Commons (located in the Usdan University Center) unless otherwise noted.
