Global Studies
- What is the Center for Global Studies?
The Center of Global Studies coordinates the resources and opportunities Wesleyan students need for gaining proficiency in a second language and for developing their intercultural knowledge and sensitivity. Our staff, in the offices of Study Abroad, Language Learning Resources and Fellowships, Internships and Exchanges are prepared to help tailor a global education to your personal needs. See the Center for Global Studies website to learn more!
- What major may I choose to develop my global education?
The CGS aims to help students broaden their horizons and deepen their intercultural competence generally while pursuing a global perspective in any field of study.
- Who can study abroad?
Any Wesleyan student from any major or background can and should study abroad. Visit the Office of Study Abroad for more information!
- Can I study abroad in a country that speaks a language I don't know?
Language learning is an essential component of your global education. A language prerequisite exists, therefore, for study in countries whose language is taught at Wesleyan. Careful advanced planning is therefore essential. Although no prerequisite exists for other countries, Wesleyan students are required to study the language of the host country as part of their coursework abroad. See Study Abroad Prerequisites and Policies for specific details.
- I want to study a language that Wesleyan doesn't offer. What can I do?
The CGS coordinates such language learning opportunities. For a listing of the Language Resource services, visit their page.
- What opportunities exist to continue my global education after graduation?
There are a multitude of programs, scholarships, and fellowships available to graduating students including opportunities for language study, research, interning, and more. Contact Kate Smith, Associate Director of Fellowships, Internships and Exchange for more information!
