Experience the culture of Java with beginning students of the Wesleyan Javanese Gamelan Ensemble under the direction of Winslow-Kaplan Professor of Music Sumarsam. Featuring Javanese dance by choreographer and Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance Five Ihza Marchiano from the court of Yogyakarta. A magnificent orchestra of bronze gong, metallophones, xylophones, drums, strings, and voices, the gamelan accompanies dances and puppet plays, feasts, and ceremonies.
