Advanced Javanese Gamelan Concert

A magnificent orchestra of bronze gongs, xylophone, drums, strings, and voices, the gamelan accompanies feasts, ceremonies, and dances. Wesleyan's Javanese Gamelan ensemble, under the direction of University Professor of Music Harjito and Winslow-Kaplan Professor of Music Sumarsam, presents the classical music and dance of Central Java. The concert will include a prelude by the Indonesian Connecticut Community Gamelan Ensemble, directed by Professor Harjito.
