Our friends at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, led by Executive and Artistic Director Pamela Tatge ’84, MALS’10, P’16, present an exclusive virtual performance by the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble. The internationally acclaimed Indian classical dance company performed in Crowell Concert Hall as the conclusion of the 40th annual Navaratri Festival at Wesleyan in October 2016.Hailed by The New York Times as having “among the world’s greatest dancers,” Upādāna: An offering gives audiences access to the company like never before.
Travel virtually to the lush ten acre Nrityagram Dance Village on the outskirts of Bangalore to experience a one of a kind community where dance is a way of life. India’s first modern Gurukul, an education system with students or disciples living near or with the guru, was founded by Protiima Bedi in 1990.
The Odissi dance company will perform works choreographed by Surupa Sen and set to a score by Pt. Raghunath Panigrahi. Ancient wisdom, sacred rituals, and divine transformation are unveiled and interpreted by electrifying dance. Sen will also lead audiences on a rare, behind the scenes look at the home to Nrityagram, which has inspired global audiences for over 30 years.
