Why Wes? I was looking for a school that could truly support me as a first-generation student, providing the necessary resources while also allowing me to grow. Wesleyan did exactly that. It offered me incredible opportunities and support, all while creating a space where I could challenge myself and improve. I always say that a school that allows you to critique it is a school that embraces growth—and that’s why I’m so grateful to be working closely with Wesleyan’s administration to help make this institution even better for future generations.

Why Wes? The people here are unparalleled. Very few schools have students who show up for each other like they do at Wes — we regularly overflow bleachers and sell out performances. Why Wes: I have had a unique relationship with Wesleyan because my dad owns two restaurants on campus (WesWings and The Red & Black Cafe!). I grew up surrounded by Wesleyan students and always admired them. However, I used to say I would never go to Wesleyan, because who would want to go to college with their dad? I soon became aware of my deep connection with Wesleyan students and realized that this was the community I have always been most drawn to. Considering the perfect size, open curriculum, and campus in relation to Middletown, I decided that Wesleyan was the perfect school for me. Ultimately, going to college with my dad could not be further from a con.Extracurriculars: Director and Stage Manager for Spike Tape (student theater), WesWings, Red and Black Cafe, Tour GuideFavorite movie: Good Luck Charlie: It’s ChristmasFavorite song: You’re So Vain by Carly Simon -

Why Wes: The open curriculum was and continues to be a huge appeal for me - I complete the requirements for my majors (which I enjoy) then take whatever other classes sound interesting, including three semesters of playwriting within two years! I applied regular decision to every school and really struggled with finding what school was best for me "on paper." But through touring, spending a day on campus shadowing a student, WesFest, and accidentally finding my future roommate, I met a lot of great people and they helped me see a life for myself at Wes.
Extracurriculars: Spike Tape (student theater), Writers' Room tutor & mentor, on-campus research intern, occasional film crew assistant
Favorite Moment at Wes (so far): I genuinely can’t pick one, but I love the movie nights I have pretty regularly with my closest friends on the projector in mine and my roommate’s dorm.
Favorite Movie: Ask me for my Letterboxd ;)
Fun Fact: I taught myself to crochet in January 2023 and I love it! I have a shelf, multiple bins, and a big bag of yarn in my room. -

Everyone here is so excited to take full advantage of every opportunity which makes Wes such an inspiring place to be at.

Why Wes: During my college search I had a pretty specific set of criteria. I wanted a small college/university where I didn't just feel like a number, a good film program to nurture my hobby, and opportunities to try new things and explore. Wesleyan simply checked all of those boxes. But even more than that, I was struck by the collaborative culture and friendly demeanor that I encountered at every turn. After my Dad and I visited various colleges around the northeast and the rest of the country during my Junior Spring, we ranked each on a 1-10 scale in a plethora of categories, including campus attractiveness, curriculum, size, culture. etc. I ranked Wesleyan highest in just about every category. It was clear there was no other place for me than Wes, and I applied Early Decision early in my Senior Fall. Somehow, Wesleyan exceeded my expectations and I developed new passions in addition to fostering my old ones. Due to the open curriculum, I'm now majoring in two departments that I had almost no experience with prior to my arrival at Wes.

Why Wes: Wes afforded me the opportunity to come to a University on my terms and with my financial abilities. When applying I just wanted to feel like I could figure out a way to make my mark wherever I could go and Wesleyan’s collaborative process is phenomenal in doing that. I wanted a school on the smaller side that wouldn’t force me down a certain path but allow me to maneuver one myself. Wesleyan was and is the place. I am so fortunate that I ended up here and wouldn’t change my choice for anything.

Why Wes: I knew I wanted to attend a small, highly academic institution. I wasn't sure what I wanted to major in, but I knew I eventually wanted to do something in the medical field. Wesleyan seemed like it would be a good fit for my undergrad to allow time to figure out what I want to do post-grad. I also knew I wanted to go somewhere with division 3 sports. The athletics aspect was a huge part for me because running has been an important part of my life for the past 10 years. I wanted to join a team that I could contribute significantly from the start. I committed to Wesleyan before even visiting, and to this day I am very happy with my decision.
