Guidelines for Supplemental Materials
Wesleyan University is an energetic liberal arts community where critical thinking and practical idealism go hand in hand. This commitment reigns true for our visual and performing arts communities. While Wesleyan University is not a conservatory, we believe our unique approach to the academic study of the arts, in relation to the liberal arts curriculum, makes Wesleyan a distinctive educational experience.
A portfolio/audition is not required for admission to the University nor is it related to admission to any major. The submission of supplemental materials is optional. This material may be reviewed by our arts faculty, and should reflect an exceptional commitment to the arts, as well as the potential to fully engage within a liberal arts environment. While talent is important and notable, so is the opportunity for open-mindedness and growth.
There are myriad ways for students to highlight their passions and talents through the application—the extracurricular section of the application, the personal essay, counselor recommendations, or an optional interview. Most successful applicants submit only the required application materials. We are cognizant that the submission of optional materials takes time and resources that may not be available to all students. Before investing time and/or financial resources into submitting an optional supplement, we encourage you to consult with a trusted teacher/professional who may better assess your talent.
Please do not submit any material directly to the Office of Admission; material not uploaded through Slideroom will not be reviewed.
Please review Slideroom for specific information about departmental guidelines and requirements for art supplements. Review your submission carefully as we cannot edit submissions after they are submitted.
