Access Major Newspapers

To access these sites using Wesleyan-funded subscriptions (no cost to current students, faculty, and staff) follow the instructions below.

Wesleyan users also have access to historical backfiles of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and other newspapers through more researcher focused interfaces. Links to historical and current newspaper databases can be found in our guide to finding newspapers.

  • New York Times

    Once registered, you can use your login to access the New York Times from nytimes.com or the New York Times mobile application.

    Your account will expire 1 year after registering and must be renewed following the instructions under the How to Register or Renew link below. Includes access to NYT games.

    How to Register or Renew the New York Times

    To register as a new user:

    1. Navigate to https://nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt.
    2. Search for and click the listing for Wesleyan University.
    3. On the next screen follow the appropriate instructions, depending on whether you are on-campus or off-campus.
    4. Login through Wesleyan Single Sign On if prompted.
    5. Click Create Account and complete registration fields.

    Students who already have a login through the NYT student digital program:

    1. Navigate to https://nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt.
    2. Search for and click the listing for Wesleyan University.
    3. On the next screen follow the appropriate instructions, depending on whether you are on-campus or off-campus.
    4. Login through Wesleyan Single Sign On if prompted.
    5. Click "Already have an account? Log in here" and log in with your existing NYT credentials.
    6. Once completed, you will regain access and your email will be linked to Wesleyan's subscription.

     

    To renew your New York Times subscription each year:

    1. Navigate to https://nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt.
    2. Search for and click the listing for Wesleyan University.
    3. On the next screen follow the appropriate instructions, depending on whether you are on-campus or off-campus.
    4. Login through Wesleyan Single Sign On if prompted.
    5. Click "Already have an account? Log in here."
    6. Log in with your existing NYT username and password.
    7. At that point you will be shown your new expiration date.
    8. Within 15 minutes you will receive an email from the New York Times. You must click on the link in the email to confirm your email address and obtain access for the next 12 months.
  • Washington Post

    Once registered, you can use your @wesleyan.edu email address to log in to the Washington Post website or mobile application.

    How to Register for the Washington Post

    To register your account:

    1. Visit https://www.washingtonpost.com/subscribe/signup to sign-up with your wesleyan.edu email address.
    2. You will receive an activation email to finish setting up your account.
  • Wall Street Journal

    Once registered, you can use your login to access the Wall Street Journal from www.wsj.com or the Wall Street Journal mobile application.

    After registering you will have access to WSJ, WSJ+, WSJ newsletters and podcasts. Access is provided to the last 4 years of the Wall Street Journal.

    Faculty/staff accounts need to be renewed annually by visiting WSJ.com/WesleyanU and logging in.

    How to Register for the Wall Street Journal

    To register as a new user:

    1. Navigate to https://wsj.com/wesleyanu.
    2. Login through Wesleyan Single Sign On if prompted.
    3. Complete the registration page to activate your account.
  • The Atlantic

    Once registered, you can use your login to access The Atlantic from theatlantic.com/

    How to Register for The Atlantic

    To register as a new user:

    1. At The Atlantic home page https://www.theatlantic.com, click to "Sign In." 
    2. Select the option to Sign in through your institution.
    3. Enter "Wesleyan University Library" as your institution.
    4. Log in with your Wesleyan username and password.

  • The Economist

    Once registered, you can use your login to access The Economist from economist.com or The Economist mobile application.

    How to Register for The Economist

    To register as a new user:

    1. Navigate to https://myaccount.economist.com/s/login/SelfRegister
    2. Enter your name and @wesleyan.edu email address, and create a password
    3. You will receive a verification email from The Economist titled "You’ve been given an Economist subscription." Click to "Verify email."
    4. Once verified, you will have full access via economist.com and their app.
  • Financial Times

    Once registered, access the Financial Times from www.ft.com or the Financial Times mobile application. Select Sign In > Sign in with Google to use your Wesleyan login.

    After registering you will have access to the Financial Times online, as well as a wide range of resources for education, with materials geared towards both faculty and students. Financial Times Resources for Education 

    How to register for the Financial Times

    To register with the Financial Times:

    1. Navigate to https://sso.ft.com/sso/auth?entityID=https%3A%2F%2Fidp.wesleyan.edu%2Fentity
      • If you are not yet signed in to Wesleyan single sign on, then you’ll be prompted to sign in with your Wesleyan username and password.
      • If you are already signed in to SSO, you’ll be automatically passed through to the Financial Times to set up your account.
    2. After signing in or being automatically passed through, you'll receive the message "Great news! Wesleyan University has an FT subscription you can join."
      • If you’ve already created a Financial Times account, you can click Sign In now. Then Sign in with your FT account.
      • If you don't have a Financial Times account, complete the fields in the Add Your Details form, check the box to agree to the terms and conditions, then click Continue.

    After completing this sign up you will be able to use all of the FT.com resources.

    When logging in in the future, use the Sign In link from the www.ft.com homepage, then select the Sign in with Google option.

  • Chronicle of Higher Education

    Once registered, you can use your login to access The Chronicle from www.chronicle.com.

    How to Register for the Chronicle of Higher Education

    To register as a new user:

    1. Navigate to https://www.chronicle.com.
    2. Click Sign In at the top of the page.
    3. Click the Sign Up tab.
    4. Complete the registration page. You must use your @wesleyan.edu email address to get access through Wesleyan's subscription.
    5. An email will be sent to your @wesleyan.edu address. Click the link in it to activate your Chronicle account.
    6. Once registered, you can use your login to access The Chronicle from www.chronicle.com.

    Alternative methods of access, no account registration needed:

    Option 1: Through the Chronicle website (requires different methods for on campus and off campus access)


    Option 2: Access the Chronicle from the library Journal A-Z list

    • From OneSearch select Journal Titles A-Z in the top menu bar. 
    • Type Chronicle of Higher Education in the search bar.
    • From the search results click Online access. Click Chronicle of Higher Education (online access) 
    • Click on the first choice: Chronicle of Higher Education / Available from 1989.
  • Middletown Press

    Access the Middletown Press from November 4, 2017 - current through the Access World News database.

    No registration is necessary, but when off-campus you must use the link provided above to be recognized as coming from Wesleyan and provided access.
