Why Recycle?

Recycling reduces the total amount of solid waste being sent to landfills and incinerators. Instead, waste is re-entered into national and international markets in the form of finished products.

With a well-run program, recycling can cost less than trash removal.

Products made from recycled materials often cost less than equivalent products made from virgin materials.

Reduces reliance on virgin materials that take more energy to process than reclaimed materials.

Manufacturing from recycled materials, with very few exceptions, saves energy and water and produces less air and water pollution than manufacturing with virgin materials.

Recycling saves non-renewable resources. 94% of the natural resources used in the United States are non-renewable.

It takes far less energy to recycle products such as aluminum, steel, newspaper, plastic and glass than it does to make them from raw materials. Landfills never save energy.
