Subject: Preparation for Extreme Weather

Dear Students,

A tropical storm warning has been issued for today with potentially hazardous winds.  In extreme weather conditions such as these, it is important to take precautionary measures.  Please read below for important tips to keep in mind as you prepare:

High winds may result in power failure, so:

  • Be sure to have foods that do not require the use of a stove or microwave to prepare (breads, nut spreads, fruits, crackers, etc.).
  • Fully charge all cellphones and computers
  • Be sure you have flashlights and batteries available
  • Remember that candles, lanterns and other items that require an open flame are not permitted in residences.

Additional tips:

  • Move all items and furniture indoors to avoid them being blown away, hurting someone or damaging property due to high winds.
  • If you have a vehicle, it is a good idea to fill your gas tank today.

Thanks for your consideration and assistance,
The Residential Life Staff
