WESLEYAN McNAIR PROGRAM APPLICATION

NOTE: Both McNair Scholars (fr/soph) and Fellows (jr/sr) use the same application form but are evaluated with different expectations.

Applicants must fill out an online application, write a research proposal and personal statement (within online application) and submit the following required supporting documents.

2. Research proposal and personal statement
The research proposal answers the following question:
"In your own words describe your research interests/question that could potentially be the basis of your McNair research project and propose methods for implementing it." (250-450 word limit)

The personal statement answers the following questions:
"What are your academic and research interests?  Why do you want to go to graduate school? How will participation in the McNair program fit into your long-range academic and professional plans?  Please include any research experience you may have, and other experiences that you have had that will help you succeed in graduate school." (300-500 word limit)

3. Required Supporting Documents

  • Signed copy of your parent's or legal guardian's most recent federal income tax form (or explanation if none filed)
  • Copy of financial aid award letter (a copy from your student portfolio is acceptable)
  • Copy of your transcript (a copy from your student portfolio is acceptable)
  • Names and e-mail addresses of two individuals from whom you are requesting references. Please provide your recommenders a copy of the McNair reference form. (Click here to download the reference form.)
