Mathematics and Computer Science
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Wesleyan University. The department is located on the 6th floor of the Exley Science Center. There are 21 regular faculty in the department, as well as a several visiting and emeritus faculty members.
Undergraduate Studies
The department offers a major in Mathematics, and a major in Computer Science. The major programs offer flexibility, to support both students who choose to pursue advanced study in their field, and students who seek to gain expertise in our disciplines while pursuing a broader liberal-arts education.
The department also offers a variety of introductory courses which are appropriate for students with interests in mathematics or computer science, but who do not intend to pursue a major.
Graduate Studies
At the graduate level, the department offers a Ph.D. program in mathematics and M.A. programs in mathematics and computer science. Our program supports roughly 16 to 24 graduate students. In addition, the department participates in a combined B.A./M.A. program. Courses at the graduate level are augmented with active research seminars, and an independent research program planned in consultation with a faculty advisor.
Research
Faculty in the department pursue active research programs in several areas of mathematics and computer science. Faculty regularly publish in peer-reviewed academic journals and earn support for their research through external funding.
