    Headshot of CPE Academic Manager, Kristen InglisKristen Inglis, Academic Development & Planning Manager, Center for Prison Education

    Kristen Inglis joined the Center for Prison Education from the University of Pittsburgh's philosophy department, where she served as Assistant Professor from 2011 to 2015. Her research has focused on ancient philosophy, specifically Aristotle’s ethics and politics. While a graduate student at Cornell, Kristen taught an ancient philosophy course at Cayuga Correctional Facility through Cornell’s Prison Education Program (CPEP).  While at Cornell she also organized a summer reading group at Auburn Prison that brought together faculty and incarcerated students to discuss issues of law, society, and culture.  Kristen holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, where she double-majored in philosophy and economics. She holds a PhD in philosophy from Cornell University.

    Headshot of CPE Program Manager Noah BarthNoah A. Barth, Program Manager, Center for Prison Education

    Noah joined the Center for Prison Education with a background in non-profit program management and social justice activism. Most recently he served as the programmatic lead for the US chapter of Médecins du Monde where he established a free medical clinic for the undocumented and uninsured in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Noah first became interested in rethinking the US prison system as a youth growing up in New York City and further as an undergraduate volunteer at an alternatives to detention program. Noah holds a BA in Sociology and an MS in International Development from Tulane University.

    Sitar joined the CPE upon graduating from Wesleyan University in 2017. She was previously involved with the CPE as a teaching assistant for a philosophy class taught at Cheshire CI, an experience which influenced her desire to pursue graduate studies in social and political philosophy. Also interested in non-traditional educational models, Sitar has spent multiple summers working with teenagers through the international peace education organization CISV. While at Wesleyan, she wrote and edited for various student publications and worked at Long Lane Farm.

Volunteers

Undergraduate volunteers are an integral part of our team.  We engage Wesleyan main-campus students as Writing Tutors,Teaching Assistants and interns at both Cheshire and York CI

Composed of Wesleyan faculty members from each academic division, our committee oversees the application process for incarcerated students and approves the slate of courses taught in prison each year, as well as all adjunct appointments.

Advisory Board

Our Advisory Board has the task of envisioning the future of the CPE, collectively engaging the complex and emerging issues of a small and ambitious initiative. It considers the scope and character of program growth and evaluates opportunities for collaboration with other programs, institutions and state agencies.
