Wesleyan athletes captured first place in five events during the Cardinal Invitational II meet in Middletown Sat., Feb. 7. There was no team scoring in the meet.
Wesleyan had two field-event champs as Sokki Chham '11 (photo insert lower left) took the long jump with a solid leap of 16-8 1/2 while Kathryn Kulowski '11 (main photo courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography,com) won the triple jump with a 34-6 1/4 effort. She also took second in the high jump clearing 5-0 1/4.
On the track, Lisa Sussman '09 continued her excellence by covering the 1000m race in 3:03.30 to post a 10-second margin of victory. Liz Wheatley '09 won the mile in 5:24.96 and Julia Frieze '12 was the 600m race winner in 1:41.74.
Wesleyan headed to M.I.T. Sat., Feb. 14 for its invitational and returned with three individual top-four placings led by Wheatley, who captured the 5000m race with a solid time of 18:32.22, 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Frieze was second in the 400m and Lilly Fesler was fourth in the 600m.
While the bulk of the team was at M.I.T., a select few ran at the elite B.U. Valentine's Day meet. There Ravenna Neville '10 ran a sterling 17:55.53 in the 5k event to place 20th overall and 10th among Division III entrants.
Wesleyan will send a contingent of athletes to Bowdoin for the annual New England Division III meet Fri. and Sat., Feb. 20-21 for its next action.
