Cardinals Measure Hamilton, 8-1, for Third NESCAC Win, Then Come up Short of Trinity, 7-2
Adding Hamilton to their list of NESCAC victories, the Cardinals moved a step closer to their second straight trip to the NESCAC tournament following an 8-1 decision over the Continentals Sat., April 18. Wesleyan then took on Trinity in another key NESCAC matchup Tues., April 21 and the Bantams prevailed, 7-2, to likely end the Cardinals' chances of making the NESCAC tournament for the second straight year. Wesleyan closes out the regular-season on the road at Bates Sun., April 26.
Against Hamilton, Casey Simchik '10 (main photo) got a chance to play both singles and doubles for Wesleyan and responded with victories in both venues. She joined the rest of the Cardinals' single lineup with a straight-set win over her Continental opponent at #6. She and Rachel Ghorbani '09 (photo insert lower right) posted an 8-5 win at #2 doubles. Ghorbani also won at #3 singles. Other winners for Wesleyan in both singles and doubles were Ania Preneta '09 and Linda McDougal '11.
Playing indoors at Trinity, Sarah Miller '12 improved her team-leading singles mark to 12-4 with a straight-set victory at #3. The doubles combo of Preneta and McDougal again came through with a win at #3.
