Anika Fischer '10 Returns from Abroad and Has a Big Impact on Cards' Opening Success in Florida


After spending the first semester in Italy, Anika Fischer '10 (photo) returned to the Cardinal lineup as the team opened a five-match schedule during a training trip to Orlando, Fla., Sun., March 8. Fischer rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #1 singles and teamed with Sarah Miller '12 for an 8-6 win at #1 doubles as Wesleyan defeated St. Ambrose, 7-2.

Miller also was a winner at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Casey Simchik '10 also posted a pair of triumphs as she was paired with Ana Alvarado '12 at #3 doubles for an 8-2 win while coming through with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #5 singles as well.

The team ran its Florida record to 2-0 with a tight 5-4 victory over Haverford Mon., March 9. The Cardinals captured all three doubles matches, including a 9-7 win at #2 from Meredith Holmes '10 and Linda McDougal '11. Solid singles wins from #2 Miller and #4 Holmes secured the team triumph.

The Cardinals continue their match-a-day format by taking on South Dakota Tues., March 10.
