Cards End Fall Dual-Match Season with Win at Babson as Ania Preneta '09 Gets Clinching Victory


Wesleyan wrapped up the fall portion of its dual-match season with an exciting 5-4 victory at Babson Tues., Oct 16 to secure a 4-1 mark heading into the spring campaign. The team will finish the fall with a trip to Amherst Fri.-Sun., Oct. 19-21 for the New England Division III tournament. At Babson, in a match started outdoors but finished indoors due to nighfall, the Cardinals jumped ahead 3-0 by capturing all of the doubles matches. Babson came back to take three of the four singles matches completed outdoors to make it close at 4-3 with two matches remaining. They were brought indoors and when Babson captured th #4 singles match in three sets, it left Ania Preneta '09 (photo) to decide the match at #1. She won the third set 6-2 to turn the final result in Weseyan's favor, 5-4. Preneta had teamed with Lizzie Collector '09 for a #3-doubles win as well. Rachael Ghorbani '09 also provided two victories for Wesleyan with a singles win at #3 and a doubles triumph at #2, playing with Linda McDougal '11.
