Women's Tennis is Back Virtually Intact from Last Spring, Looking for Another Winning Season

With the team's top seven singles players returning and the starting three doubles tandems all back intact, Wesleyan will have ample talent and experience to pursue another winning season. The 2006-07 squad posted an 11-7 overall mark. Team captain Lizzie Collector '09 (photo) was a staple at #3 doubles last year with #1 singles player Ania Preneta '09. They combined for a team best 9-4 doubles mark. Preneta, Madalina Ursu '09, Rachael Ghorbani '09, Meredith Holmes '10, Anika Fischer '10 and Casey Simchik '10 closed out the 2007 spring season as the 1-6 singles lineup and all return along with Alex Sirois '09, a fixture at #2 doubles. With newcomer Linda McDougal '11, the #1 player in Nepal, expected to push the returnees, Wesleyan will field a very representative women's tennis squad in 2007-08. The opening match comes at home Tues., Sept. 11 vs. Springfield.
