In 2007, Wesleyan took Little Three rival Williams down to the wire in a 1-0 loss, tied Little Three foe Amherst, 2-2, posted a first-ever NESCAC round-robin victory over Bates (2-0) and defeated NESCAC opponent Colby (2-1) for the second year in a row after an 0-6-3 start to the series vs. the Mules. In addition, all six of the team's NESCAC losses came by just one goal. With that kind of competitive nature a year ago and the return of nine starters and 17 letterwinners, the Cardinals have much to anticipate for the 2008 campaign. Team tri-captains Marissa Trevisan '09 (#9, main photo by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com), Sam Blank '09 (#8, photo insert lower right by SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com) and goalie Gavi Elkind '09 (photo insert upper right) will be mainstays on the veteran squad. Trevisan was a NSCAA New England Division III third-team all-star while Blank made the all-NESCAC second team. Elkind posted a tremendous 0.68 GAA and a .882 save percentage with a 3-2 record. Other starters back include Kaitlin Ashley '11, Cora Lautze '11, Dasha Battelle '11, Taylor Stevenson '10, Beth Kenworthy '10 and Sarah Orkin '09. The squad has six newcomers noted on the preseason roster to add depth to the list of 17 returnees. The team eagerly looks forward to the season opener Wed., Sept. 10 at home vs. Mount Holyoke, a team Wesleyan defeated 4-0 in 2007.
