Grapplers Roll Past Trinity, 36-7, to Open Home Schedule - John Gottfried '09 Takes Title at Ursinus

Winning eight of the 10 matches during the team's inaugural home match against Trinity Wed., Jan. 9, Wesleyan captured a comfortable 36-7 victory. Three Cardinals won their bout by pin, including John Gottfried '09 (photo courtesy of SteveMcLaughlinPhotography.com), who picked his up just 1:24 into the 197-pound match. Both Alex Segal '09, at 184, and Josh Wildes '08, at 133, came through with falls in the final minute of the match. Zach Rolfe '10 recorded a second-period technical fall at 157 pounds to put Wesleyan ahead for good in the evening's second bout. The squad then headed back to Ursinus Sat., Jan.12, where Wesleyan competed in the North-South Duals the weekend before, for the Homecoming Invitational tournament. There Gottfried went 3-0 at 197 pounds to take the individual title, the top performance by the 19 Cardinals in competition. Three others placed in their weight class to help Wesleyan finish fifth of nine teams. Dan Bloom '10 was third at 125 pounds, Rolfe was fourth at 157 and Cam Maloni '09 claimed third at 184.
