Cards Looking to Up Offensive Production While Maintaining Defensive Integrity in 2007-08

Returning its top six scorers from the 2006-07 campaign and a top-flight goaltender, Wesleyan will be looking to turn around its fortunes in 2007-08. First-year head coach Jodi McKenna has 14 veterans on the preseason roster, joined by 7-8 newcomers, a number of whom are expected to be immediate impact performers. Wesleyan, which scored just 44 goals in 24 games a year ago, will be looking for more scoring punch as Hannah Jackson '09 (#8, photo insert upper right) led the team in points with 15 (6 goals, 9 assists) while Jessica Fischer '08 (#25, photo insert lower right) was second with 14 and tied with Amanda Nickels '08 for team goal-scoring leadership, each with eight. Rachel Stemerman '09 (#1, main photo) has been a rock in goal since she arrived on campus with 39 starts in two seasons, and career figures of a 3.18 GAA and a 92.0 save percentage. Julia Kazmers '08, Erin Fitzsimmons '10 and Eliza Worthley '09 will be counted upon for their defensive skills in front of Stemerman. Wesleyan begins the 2007-08 action by traveling to Trinity for a pair of NESCAC games Fri. and Sat., Nov. 16 and 17.
