After leading the NESCAC in kills per game for the second year in a row, averaging 5.51, outside hitter Lisa Drennan '09 (#7, main photo) was named first-team all-NESCAC for the second year in a row. She had also been NESCAC Player of the Year last season and was a second-team choice in 2005, making her a three-time conference honoree. Four additional honors have come Drennan's way in 2007. She is a first-team all-New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Division III selection for a second consecutive year, an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III New England all-region choice as well as an AVCA honorable-mention All-American, and a second-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine District I academic All-American. Setter Ellie Healy '10 (#10, photo insert lower left) gained her first bid to the all-NESCAC squad, chosen as a second-teamer after ranking second in the league with an 11.42 assist average. She led the league a year ago with 11.35 assists per game. Seeded fifth in the NESCAC tournament hosted by Amherst Fri.-Sun., Nov 2-4, Wesleyan faced Conn. College, seeded fourth, in an opening-round match and fell by a 3-0 count (16-30, 32-34, 26-30). That drew the Cardinals' season to a close with a solid 17-8 record, 6-4 in conference play. Drennan led the team with 19 kills vs. Conn. Healy added 33 assists to her season total against Conn. Libero Ruby Hernandez '11 chipped in 12 digs in the final match for a seasonal average of 4.82 a game. The seasonal blocks leader is Ashley Farrow '10, who had three vs. Conn. and 69 for the year (1.03 per game). Following the 2007-08 year, AVCA announced that 62 NCAA Division III teams had earned an award for academic excellence and Wesleyan was among them as the Cardinals recorded a collected team GPA in excess of 3.30.
