Inaugurating the year with a pair of matches versus perennial regional powers Wellesley and Williams, the Cardinals downed host Wellesley, 3-1, but fell on neutral ground to Williams by the same margin. The 2006 NESCAC Player of the Year Lisa Drennan '09 (#7, main photo), who ranked fifth nationally in Division III by averaging 5.56 kills per game, picked right up where she left off by collecting 47 kills over the eight games for an average of 5.88. She also paced the team in digs with 37 whie adding four blocks and seven aces. Coming through with 33 digs in her first varsity action was Ruby Hernandez '11 (#1, photo insert lower left), who has earned the starting libero spot. Setter Ellie Healy '10 exceeded her NESCAC-leading figure from 2006 (11.35 assists per game) by dishing out 94 assists in eight games (11.75). The Cardinals next head to Waterville, Me., Fri. and Sat., Sept. 14 and 15 for the opening of the NESCAC schedule, facing Bates, Bowdoin and Colby.
