Destined to play each other in the first round of the upcoming NESCAC tournament to be hosted by Wesleyan May 2-4, Wesleyan and Trinity met in their annual regular-season double-header with the Cards taking game one, 7-3, and Trinity rallying for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap. Over the two games, Wesleyan hit at a .429 clip with 27 safeties. Led by Talia Bernstein's '11 (main photo by Ron Bernstein P'11) 5-for-8 performance, four Cardinals combined for an amazing 17-for-28 afternoon (a .607 average). Both Marcia Whitehead '08 and Meaghan Dendy '10 went 4-for-7 with Dendy scoring three runs and Whitehead scoring twice with an RBI. Bernstein matched Whitehead in runs and RBI while Joanna Brownson '08 (photo insert lower left by Ron Bernstein P'11) went 4-for-6 including a two-run homer in the second game which spotted the Cards a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning. Still the Bantams came back for the win. In the first game, back-to-back doubles by Dendy and Whitehead in the 5th inning broke a 2-2 tie and Whitehead scored on an error to make it 4-2. In a two-run 7th inning, Whitehead and Bernstein accounted for a run with back-to-back doubles while Taylor Zavadsky '10 drove in the final run with a single. The NESCAC field is set as Wesleyan and Williams will represent the West while Tufts and Trinity are the East squads. Wesleyan also captured its first-ever Little Three title as Amherst finished 3-3 and Williams 2-4 to Wesleyan's 4-2. This is the 14th season that all three colleges have fielded a varsity team. All the games during the NESCAC tournament will be webcast and the link to watch the contests is on the athletics home page under "Webcasts." Wesleyan was to play a double-header at Eastern Conn. Tues., April 29 to finish up the regular season, but the games were washed out.
