Cards Sweep Bates to Push Win Streak to 10 and Eclipse Team Mark for Wins in a Season with 17


Taking a pair at Bates Sat., April 21, 11-2 in five innings in the first game and 3-2 in the second, the Cards improved to 17-11 on the year, breaking the team mark for wins in a season set by the 1995 squad which posted a 16-10 mark. Wesleyan also has won 10 straight games, adding to its record with each victory. No previous team had won more than six in a row. Wesleyan will be right back at it on Sun., April 22, hosting Bowdoin in a double-header starting at 11 a.m. The games, part of Youth Softball Day at Wesleyan, will be webcast with details for watching on the athletics home page under Webcasts. At Bates, reigning NESCAC Pitcher of the Week Meaghan Dendy '10 (#7, main photo) reinforced her honor by throwing a three-hitter with eight Ks in a five-inning game. She struck out seven of the first nine batters she faced. As a hitter, she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Dayna Yorks '07 knocked in three as her two-run single in the 6th helped the Cards end the game early. Jo Brownson '08 (#5, photo insert upper left) had three hits and went on to add another two safeties in the second game, making her 5-for-8 on the day. Marcia Whitehead '08 (three hits in game two) and Yorks each had an RBI single in the 3rd to trigger a three-run rally which held up as Karla Hargrave '08 threw a complete-game victory, scattering six hits while allowing only one earned run.
