Molly O'Connell '09 Has Two Timely Hits to Trigger Comeback Win vs. Hamilton, 6th Straight for Cards

With Molly O'Connell '09 (#18, photo) getting it done at the plate with a 7th-inning triple leading to a run and the game-winning RBI in the 8th on a double to right field with two runners aboard, Wesleyan rallied past Hamilton Fri., April 13, 5-4, to extend its win streak to a team-record-tying six games. Wesleyan also kept pace with the NESCAC West win, giving the team a 5-2 conference record. Wesleyan and Hamilton do battle in a double-header Sat., April 14 to complete the three-game series. After coming back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game on Molly Gaebe's '07 4th-inning sacrifice fly, scoring Becca Feiden '08 who had doubed, and a triple by Dayna Yorks '08 who was plated by Karla Hargrave's '08 single in the 5th, Wesleyan found itself quickly down by two again in the bottom of the 5th. An error with the bases loaded led to the two unearned runs as Gaebe came in to pitch for Hargrave. Gaebe went 3 1/3 innings to get the win as she logged six of her 10 outs via strikeouts. After the O'Connell triple in the 7th, Alicia Collen '08 walked and stole second. Nikki Katz '09 followed with an RBI groundout to second. Yorks came up and did the same with the infield drawn in, but her hard contact forced the Hamilton infielder to spin around and go down, leaving only a play at first as the tyiing run scored. In the 8th, Feiden was hit by a pitch with one out and Marcia Whitehead '08 singled. Gaebe grounded into a fielder's choice with Feiden out at third before O'Connell delivered the liner to right which she hustled into a double as Whitehead scored.
