Baseball Sweeps Twin-Bill at Mitchell with Consistent Pitching and Hitting, Adds 15-2 Win vs. Elms to Start Home Slate

Getting a five-hitter from Jeff Blout 14 (#7, right side photo) as he picked up the win in a rain-shortened second game of a double-header at Mitchell Sat., March 29, Wesleyan took both ends of a twin-bill with an 8-4 victory in the opener and 7-1 win in the nightcap.  Blout allowed just one run in the five-inning affair.  In the first game, Nick Cooney '15 got the starting nod and tossed the initial 4.2 innings, yielding five hits and three runs.  Sam Elias '15 got the final eight outs of the game, permitting one run.

Eric Jones '16 (#23, left side photo) had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-4 over the two game with three RBI as he reached base six times with three walks as well.  As a team, Wesleyan went 17-for-48 during the two games (.354).  Joining Jones with three hits on the day were Jon Dennett '15 and Robby Harbison '17.  Wesleyan trailed 2-0 in the opener before taking the lead for good with three runs in the 4th inning, then added four more in the 5th for a 7-2 lead.  The Cardinals got all seven run in the second game during the 4th inning, collecting five hits.  Nick Miceli '17 had a two-run single and Guy Davidson '16, who batted twice in the frame, drove in the first run with double, then knocked in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

After having its annual meeting with Eastern Conn. postponed due to snow Mon., March 31, the Cardinals inaugurated the home schedule vs. Elms Wed., April 2, with a convincing 15-2 triumph.  Wesleyan amassed 17 hits on the day with Jones, Dennett, Donnie Cimino '15 and Ellis Schaefer '17 all banging out three hits to lead the way.  Dennett was tops in the RBI department with five.  Wesleyan had eight pitching in action during the game as they scattered seven hits.

Up next for the squad is the first NESCAC West series of the year, coming at home vs. Middlebury starting Fri., April 4 with a game slated for a webcast.
