Men's Tennis Wraps up Fall Season with Sweep of Hartford in First Meeting Since 2002
Meeting for just the fifth time and first time since doing battle in Florida in March of 2002, Wesleyan downed host Hartford, 7-0, in the final match of the fall portion of the season for the Cardinals Fri., Oct. 11.
Four Cardinals came up with wins in both singles and doubles action, led by Michael King '16 right side photo), who posted a straight set win at #2 singles and teamed with Stephen Monk '15 for a decisive 8-2 win at #3 doubles. Monk was an overwhelming 6-0, 6-1 victor at #4 singles. Sam Rudovsky '16 (left side photo) dominated his rival at #3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2, after joining Greg Lyon '17 for an 8-6 win at #2 doubles. The fourth Cardinal with a pair of triumphs was Lyon, who took a super tie-breaker, 12-10, to decide a match at #6 singles. Jake Roberts '17 won in straight sets at #1 and Michael Liu '17 captured a two-set match at #5 singles. The #1 doubles match went Wesleyan's way, 8-4, behind the efforts of Zach Brint '16 and Cameron Hicks '17.
The next action for the Cardinals comes up in the spring.
