Ben Bratt '15 Converts Omar Bravo '15 Direct Kick into a Goal, Emmett McConnell '15 Notches 5th Shutout as Men's Soccer Beats Middlebury

Ben Bratt '15 (#4, photo upper left) knocked home a missed save attempt by Middlebury's goalie with 14:33 left in the game to help the Wesleyan defeat visiting Middlebury, 1-0, Sat., Oct. 26.
The Cardinal goal came off a direct kick just inside midfield by Omar Bravo '15 (#7, photo lower left). The hard blast went right through the hands of the Panther goalie and was chipped past the line by Bratt when it hit the ground. It was Bratt’s first of the season, and the second assist for Bravo.
Middlebury, now 8-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the NESCAC, had the territorial advantage for the majority of the first half, out shooting the Cardinals, 5-3.
Middlebury nearly took the lead seven minutes into the second half when a ball was headed the ball right in front of the goal, but Cardinal keeper Emmett McConnell '15 (#30, right side photo) cut off the lower left corner and made the save.
Less than a minute later, Bravo had a chance to put Wesleyan ahead with a blast from about eight yards away that try was stopped by the keeper.
McConnell finished the game with four saves for the Cardinals, registering his fifth shutout of the year.
With the victory Wesleyan is now 7-5-1 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Cardinals have one NESCAC game left, Wed., Oct. 30 at Conn. College. The win also clinched a first-round home game for Wesleyan in the NESCAC Tournament that begins Sat., Nov. 2.
